LIHEAP:
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
LIHEAP is a federally funded grant program that helps low-income households meet their immediate home energy needs. LIHEAP funds are distributed through local Community Action Agencies (CAA) in each county in Indiana, a list of which can be found at https://www.in.gov/ihcda/homeowners-and-renters/low-income-home-energy-assistance-program-liheap/.
For eligible members, the REMC may not:
- terminate residential electric service from December 1 through March 15 for any customer who is eligible for and has applied for assistance under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) under IC 4-4-33, or
- terminate residential electric service on any day for which the National Weather Service has forecast, within the preceding 48 hours, a heat index of at least 95 degrees Fahrenheit for the customer’s service area, for any customer who is eligible for and has applied for LIHEAP assistance under IC 4-4-33 during the current calendar year.
Energy Assistance Program
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) can help you pay your heat and electric bills! EAP assists you in paying for your energy bills by providing a one-time benefit assistance payment. An EAP benefit will not cover all of your annual heating and electric costs, so you should continue to pay your bills regularly.
Brightpoint
The Brightpoint Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps pay a portion of winter heating bills and also includes Water and Wastewater Assistance which helps pay a portion of your water and wastewater bills. Brightpoint serves households in Allen, Dekalb, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley Counties. It is one application to apply for both programs.
