Website Privacy and Security Policy

 

Welcome to LaGrange County Rural Electric Membership Corporation’s website. We value our customers and take your privacy seriously.  In order to make you feel comfortable and secure in our online service center (“Site”), LaGrange County REMC (the “Company,” “Us,” and “We”) has taken many precautions to guard your privacy and personal information.   1. What personal information is being collected?

Any personally identifiable information collected on this Site is provided by you voluntarily in order to make products and services available to you and to maintain and manage our relationship with you. We will only collect, use and store information for core business purposes. Such information may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, e-mail address, and payment information. The Company does from time to time send out bulk e-mails. Each one contains an “opt out” provision and we maintain a list of users who opt out. You may “opt out” from receiving the bulk e-mails at any time.  Our ability to successfully serve you as our customer is dependent on maintaining accurate information. Information may also be collected from Site visitors about your computer and connection, such as the URL that referred you to our Site, your internet browser version, and the type of operating system you use. We will not use information collected automatically on our Site to identify you.

  1. How is the information being used and with whom may the information be shared?

The information we collect from Site visitors is used primarily to analyze traffic patterns, maintain site security, improve site navigation, measure advertising effectiveness, and improve our Site. The personal information we collect from customers is used to help us serve our customers. We will not share or disclose your information to third parties for an unrelated purpose without your consent, unless we are otherwise required by law to do so.

 

Company uses an outside company for credit card processing--it processes credit card payments for the electricity, goods, or services purchased. We do not provide personally identifiable information to these companies for any other purpose and they are not permitted to retain, share, store, or use personally identifiable information for any other purpose. 

 

  1. What information does the Company disclose to law enforcement agencies?

Company does not voluntarily share or provide information to law enforcement agencies. However, Company reserves the right to disclose your personally identifiable information, and any other information collected when required by law. Company will cooperate with investigations conducted by law enforcement agencies, provided that the law enforcement agency must provide evidence to support the need to receive the information requested in accordance with applicable law.

In addition, Company reserves the right to disclose your personally identifiable information when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a discovery request in a judicial proceeding (civil or criminal), subpoena, court order, agency order, or any other legal request compelling disclosure that is served on the Company in accordance with applicable law. 

 

  1. What organization is collecting the information?

Personal information that customers (or prospective customers) offer to the Company is collected by the Company and used to provide electricity, goods, and services to our customers. We do not collect, store, or maintain other personally identifiable information about our customers.

 

  1. What is a cookie and how is it used?

A cookie consists of information sent by a web server to a web browser and stored by the browser that enables the web server to identify and track the web browser. Cookies are created when you use your browser to visit a website that uses cookies to keep track of your movements within the site, help you resume where you left off, remember your registered login, theme selection, preferences, and other customization functions. Persistent cookies enable our Site to recognize you when you visit the Site. We use cookies to track Site usage and create analytic reports. The bill pay portion of our Site also uses a cookie to remember username information.  

This Policy covers the use of cookies by us and does not cover the use of cookies by anyone else.

By using this Site or providing us personally identifiable information, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by this Policy. If you do not agree to and accept this Policy, do not use this Site or provide us personally identifiable information.

Company’s Site may contain links from time to time to other websites.  These links are not under our control and the Company is not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by any third party websites. Such links are provided for your convenience only. The inclusion of any link on this Site does not constitute recommendation, approval, or endorsement of such third party or such third party’s site.

 

  1. What kind of security procedures are in place?

We value your business. Company strives to keep its Site current and secure and information you provide to us secure. However, we cannot guarantee the security of any information that you transmit to us or the Site, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we use reasonable safeguards consistent with prevailing industry standards to maintain the security of such information on our systems.

 

  1. How is my credit card or payment information kept secure when I pay my bill via the website?

All credit card information is encrypted by the Company by industry-standard protocol, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). The Company uses SSL to communicate with secure browsers like Chrome and Internet Explorer. These browsers encrypt your credit card and personal information in a way that is difficult to decode.  

In the event of a breach and someone gains access to your personally identifiable information, the Company will cooperate fully with all investigations and comply with all applicable federal and state laws. 

 

  1. How long is personally identifiable information retained?

Personally identifiable information may be retained as long as you are our customer or until it is no longer needed for any business or legal purpose, including but not limited to tax and accounting purposes. 

 

  1. How old do you need to be to use this Site? 

Our site is not directed to children under 13 years of age, does not sell products or services intended for purchase by children under the age of 13, and does not knowingly collect or store any personal information about children under the age of 13. 

 

  1. Can this Policy be changed?

    Yes, we reserve the right to amend, modify, or revise this Policy at any time. The Company generally will not notify you when this Policy is changed. We will post the revised Policy. So, you may want to review and check this Policy frequently.
     
  2. What law governs the use of this Site and where will disputes be litigated?

By using this Site, you agree and consent that your use of the Site, this Policy, and any actions, will in all respects be interpreted, enforced and governed under the laws of the State of Indiana without regard to its choice of law rules. Your use of the Site also constitutes your agreement and consent to jurisdiction in the State of Indiana. Furthermore, by using this Site you agree that any dispute or litigation relating to the Company, this Policy, or your use of the Site, must be heard, mediated, or litigated in the federal or state courts located in Allen County, Indiana. By using the Site, you stipulate and agree to exclusive and continuing venue for any such action will be in the federal or state courts located in Allen County, Indiana.
